Madrid Barajas Airport

The Madrid-Barajas Airport is located in the vicinity, northeast of Madrid city center.  It is the first Spanish airport by traffic of passenger, and air cargo operations, the fourth largest in Europe, and the eleventh in the world.

Barajas Airport, has 4 terminals, from which terminals 1, 2, and 3, flights are classified according to origin or destination in three groups: Schengen, non-Schengen EU, and Third Countries.  Each Terminal can be defined as follows:

Terminal 1 – International Terminal: Operates mainly to international destinations by carriers Air Europe, Air France, British Airways, Lufthansa and other thirty airlines.

Terminal 2 – National Terminal: It is the oldest building still in operation at the airport. Operates mainly domestic destinations and Schengen territory.

Terminal 3 – Terminal for domestic and regional destinations.

Terminal 4 – AENA launches this new terminal in early 2006 that will have a capacity to serve 70 million passengers a year.

This terminal, has 1.150.000 square meters which had a cost of around 7,200 million dollars.

It has two buildings, independent of each other, which are connected by an underground automatic driverless train, that takes just over 3 minutes from one terminal to the other.

The main building houses the domestic, and international companies for Schengen territory.

The S T4 (satellite building), is reserved for airlines using the T4 for all international flights out of the Schengen area.

The Iberia Shuttle Madrid-Barcelona (Puente Aéreo), is located in an exclusive area to the bottom left of the second floor of T4, which has access, directly from the main entrance.
